Clinical director to teach addiction counselor training

Register by Nov. 21 for winter semester

North Mississippi professionals seeking to become Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselors (CADC) can register now for winter semester classes.

The Mississippi Addiction Counselor Training (MACT) program’s Addiction Pharmacology course series begins Dec. 1-2 and continues Jan. 5-6 and Feb. 2-3, 2018.

The course will be taught by Chip Peterson, M.Ed., LPC, NCC, CADC, clinical director at Oxford Treatment Center’s residential campus at Etta. MACT courses are held at the center’s Oxford outpatient office at 611 Commerce Parkway, off Highway 7 South.

“Becoming certified as an addiction counselor can be a valuable step in the careers of counselors and therapists,” Peterson said. “Because substance use disorders are closely linked to many mental health conditions, there is a wide range of professionals who can benefit from specific training in treating addictions.”

The year-long program is offered in partnership with the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MAAP). It is also offered at training sites in Jackson and Biloxi.

Those who work toward CADC certification include allied health professionals like social workers, nurses, and marriage and family therapists. The training is open to those who do not have a college degree. Students must have a high school diploma or GED to enroll in MACT.

Students may join the program at the beginning any semester, with four opportunities during the year. The deadline to register for the winter semester is Nov. 21.

MACT’s North Mississippi training site, Oxford Treatment Center, provides a complete continuum of care for drug and alcohol addiction. The Oxford outpatient office hosts an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) with adjacent Resolutions sober living homes, in addition to offering professional development opportunities and community workshops.
