Weekly Support for Families

Gatherings provide a safe place to share, learn and be encouraged

Anyone who has a loved one in active addiction, in treatment or in recovery can now access free support through weekly meetings in Oxford, Tupelo and Olive Branch.

Family Hope & Healing: A Journey in Recovery is now being offered at Oxford Treatment Center’s outpatient offices in all three cities. The gatherings have become a valued resource for those dealing with drug or alcohol addiction in a loved one.

“The more I come, the more I love it,” one mother said. “It’s really helping me to know what to do and how to handle things. I also like it because I can air out what I’m feeling to the people there, and it’s a safe place to share. I think that family members with an addict who hasn’t yet admitted they have a problem would really benefit, too.”

The meetings are led by clinical therapists as attendees interact, ask questions, and encourage one another.

“When family members have a loved one in active addiction, they are often overwhelmed both by the shame and fear they feel, and by the financial and legal consequences of their loved one’s addiction,” Family Program Director Dee Meux said. “Being part of this group allows them to see: They’re not powerless, and they’re not alone.”

Outpatient Clinical Therapist Kelly Ferguson, LPC, said it’s been rewarding to already see relationships develop among those who attend regularly.

“These families are checking on each other and helping each other,” he said. “Families deal with so much when a loved one is in addiction, and it can be a very isolating experience. Just being able to share their burdens with each other means so much.

There is no need to register in advance for this program. For questions, contact the outpatient office in Oxford, Tupelo or Olive Branch.
